Why is the USA flag backwards on the outside of American airplanes?

Question by <8^): Why is the USA flag backwards on the outside of American airplanes?
I was flying home today from vacation and noticed that the American flag was affixed to the rear on the outside of the aircraft. (That is, the blue and the stars were on the right side of the flag instead of the left hand side). Does anyone know why that is? It was not a real flag .. It was like a “sticker” on the commercial jet

It is only backwards on one side of the aircraft. It is intended to look as if the flag is flying in the wind as the aircraft flies. Imagine there is an actual flag flying off the back of the aircraft. If your looking from one side it the stars will be on the left, but if you are looking at it from the other side the stars would be on the right. They do the same thing on military uniforms and other places the flag is shown.
